ผักตำลึง. The Ivy gourd (Coccinia indica) is a unique tropical plant that is a member of the family of Cucurbitaceae. Ivy gourd leaves are eaten raw with nam prik. The Ivy gourd produces small cucumber like gourds about 6 to 8 cm in length, when fully ripe these are bright red, with slightly sticky skin, in Thailand the gourd is rarely eaten. Medicinal Qualities The Ivy gourd has been classified as a medicinal herb in traditional Thai medicine. The parts used in diabetes treatment are the leaves. Ivy gourd contains beta-carotene, a major vitamin A precursor from plant sources. It is also considered a good source of protein and fiber. |
