This year 2006, the Thai nation comes together to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the 60th Anniversary or the Diamond Jubilee of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Accession to the Throne.
This will be a year of regal splendour as Grand Celebrations are held throughout the Kingdom of Thailand to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the ninth ruler of the Royal House of Chakri, the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history and the world’s longest reigning, living monarch, too.
While the ceremonial role of the Thai King characterised by pomp and regal splendour is the most conspicuous, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej wears many hats and is a diligent and dedicated ‘working king’ in every sense of the word.
Throughout the 60 years of his illustrious reign, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has touched the lives of the Thai people in a myriad ways. Through His Majesty's interest and life’s work in sustainable development, King Bhumibol has brought much progress and happiness to the country and the people as a whole.
